Lack of parenting backbone

I agree with the decision taken by the principal of Mandisa Shiceka Secondary School, in Kagiso, to suspend one of the pupils for having sex at school.

But I feel the principal should have suspended and eventually dismissed both pupils because the girl was not raped but consented to sex.

Both are equally to blame for committing immoral acts on the school premises. They should therefore both be dismissed.

While the country is trying hard to come to terms with the embarrassing rise in teenage pregnancies at schools, these two pupils show how such pregnancies come about.

This appalling act shows how much parenting and moral values have degenerated in this country.

Parents are failing to instil proper moral values in their children. Modern parents lack parenting backbone.

They give in to their children without hesitation "because they love their kids".

Most 13-year-olds nowadays have the latest cellphones, which feature WAP, so they can access explicit material.

What are these parents thinking when they buy their kids such dangerous gadgets? When parents fail in their responsibilities they shift the blame to third parties.

Schools need to implement laws to confiscate, impose a fine or ban cellphones that are being abused.
