Holy man Pakisi calls it a day

Dozens of residents of Tlhabologang, in Coligny in North West, converged on the local hall to bid farewell to Body Pakisi, 65, the retiring priest of the Episcopal Church in Africa (ECA).

Pakisi gave his last moving sermon to the residents in the packed hall.

Before becoming a priest, Pakisi was a lay minister of the Anglican Church for 42 years. However, in 2001 he joined the ECA. In 2002 he was ordained as a priest in Springs, Gauteng, and was deployed to the Coligny circuit.

Pakisi said that for all those years he did not receive a salary for his services. "To me it was a calling, not employment. I'm taking pension because of ill-health ," said Pakisi. - Israel Nkate
