In response to Nonhlanhla Buthelezi's letter of March 6, "Unfair that teachers are not paid on time", I'd like to add something about the treatment of teachers by the Gauteng provincial government.
My wife is a teacher employed temporarily by the Gauteng Department of Education.
Every time her contract expires and she gets reappointed, the salary processing takes two to three months.
It seems this is accepted practice. It's high time the South African Democratic Teachers' Union took the department to serious task on this issue.
