Students at the University of Johannesburg are angry with hip-hop artist Thokozani "Lvovo" Ndlovu because he failed to show up for a bash at the university.

The students are blaming Ndlovu's promoter, Tom Kelly, and his manager, Zakhele Mabida.

SRC spokesman Jessica Samela told Sowetan that Kelly had offered to promote the show at the university, held two weeks ago, and had promised to feature Lvovo in it.

In addition, Kelly had offered a Land Rover as a prize in a competition linked to the event, Samela said.

"We gave him R1000 as a down payment. The day after the deal, the jingle of our bash was playing on Metro FM.

"He later came and demanded R50000 to fly Lvovo and his crew to Jozi and to pay for their accommodation.

"When we told him to deliver before we would pay, he threatened to pull out. We had already handed R450 over to him."

Kelly said he had been told by Ndlovu's manager, Mabida, that the singer was performing in Port Elizabeth on the night the students expected him to perform for them.

Yesterday Kelly denied taking money from the university.
