Free State makes sure before 2010

The Free State is clear about how it intends to combat crime ahead of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

The province has allocated R189,6 million for justice and crime prevention in the run-up to the World Cup.

Speaking at the presentation of his budget at the provincial legislature in Bloemfontein, the MEC for finance, Tate Makgoe, assured Free Staters that the province was ready to host what is being billed as the greatest soccer event in the world.

Makgoe has increased the budget for the Department of Public Safety, Security and Liaison by 17percent.

R6,1 million has been allocated to the police.

Nearly R7,2 million will be spent on crime prevention and community policing, and R4,5 million on crime-awareness programmes. - Michael Tlhakudi
