PJ Powers, aka Thandeka, is recovering from severe depression after she broke up with her lover.

Thandeka, whose real name is Penelope Jane Dunlop, has been out of the limelight for a while. She said she had been through a rough patch in the music industry because of her depression.

She is still being treated for depression at the Wellness Clinic in Johannesburg.

"I have gone through hell over the years after losing my lover. Stress took its toll on me. But I am looking forward to starting a new life," said Thandeka.

"I am currently taking anti-depressants. I am single and hoping to meet someone."

She has released a new album, Sondela after years of obscurity.

"With this album I am hoping to bring back my fans," she said.

Thandeka has enjoyed a successful music career spanning over 15 years. She took South Africa by storm with her hit songs Jabulani, Feel so strong and You are so good to me.

Her 13-track jazz album was released last month.
