Recent statements attributed to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, right, about improving her home town, Bizana, can only mean good news for the area's people.
I say to her "bring it on". Finally, someone is doing something about the plight of people of Bizana. If there is anyone who can bring changes to this former Transkei area it has to be someone from there. Madikizela-Mandela is therefore the right person.
I was beginning to despair since the passing of Oliver Tambo, who before his death had promised to develop Bizana. Unfortunately death took him away.
The former Transkei areas have the potential to develop, but not without the help of influential people from the area.
There are a lot of Transkei born influential politicians, business people and professionals who decided to establish their bases elsewhere.
Their reason for leaving the area is corruption. Chances of developing as an individual in Bizana are slim if you are not connected. It is therefore encouraging to hear about Madikizela- Mandela's intentions.
I hope, if indeed she decides to do something, that other people should not see her as a threat, but as someone who is there to help. As a person from that area, she has my full support.
