The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) is well on track in preparing for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Sascoc president Moss Mashishi gave the assurance at the organisation's general assembly in Melrose, Johannesburg, on Saturday.

This comes after concerns were raised about the cash-strapped organisation's failure to acquire sponsors.

Mashishi said they were negotiating with potential sponsors and were on the verge of clinching three deals with major companies.

"The Paralympic sponsors are already in place and we will continue to work to ensure that our relationship with these sponsors is carefully nurtured and sustained into the future," he said.

The Sascoc boss said they will be streamlining the Jack Cheetam Awards, in collaboration with Sowetan and Murray and Roberts, the SA Sports Awards and SA Sports Hall of Fame.

"We have already commenced dialogue with our partners in each of these awards with a view to harmonise them better and ensure that they are informed by a common thread, while fulfilling different spheres of recognition," said Mashishi.

World Cup Local Organising Committee chairman Irvin Khoza was also at the assembly.

He told delegates that preparations for the 2010 World Cup were on track.

Khoza said they were also looking at roping Mashishi into the LOC.
