Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has pleaded with communities to help her department root out corruption.

She visited the impoverished area of Mboza, in Mhlabuyalingana, KwaZulu-Natal, with the provincial MEC for social welfare and population development, Meshack Hadebe. The visit was prompted by an outcry from the community over rampant corruption and lack of service delivery.

Most people do not have IDs and cannot access government grants.

Mapisa-Nqakula said her officials alone would not be able to root out corruption and they needed every concerned citizen to help.

"We have foreigners accessing your grants because pastors and traditional leaders have helped them by making affidavits confirming that they are locals," she said.
