Business savvy will rule when the winner of the Mageu Number 1 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award is announced tonight.

The event, at Turffontein Racecourse, south of Johannesburg, will be the first Sowetan Women's Club forum of this year.

With the theme "Fresh Business Opportunities in 2007", the evening will be dedicated to tourism opportunities and funding for small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs).

Speakers will include Nonhlanhla Mjoli-Ncube, who is Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka's economic advisor, and Sizakele Marutlulle, chief operating officer of SA Tourism. Sophie Ndaba, the Generations star, will be the programme director.

Women from across the country who run a small business will be competing for the R15 000 award.

Mageu Number 1 November finalist Nomsiza Sealeta of Sithokoze Development and Projects in Tembisa said: "I am confident I will win because I believe God has great plans for me."

Her three-year-old business offers services such as catering, transport, couriering and events management. Sealeta is also a florist.

Elizabeth Morumudi, of Tsakani Tuck Shop in Mangata, near Polokwane, is also certain that her hard work and dedication will pay off. Her business includes a restaurant and public telephone service.

Other finalists include Pauline Zwane of Qedindlala Poultry Project, Sellinah Shiba of Buhlebuzile Protective Clothing, Fikile Dlamini of ITO Focus Soweto, Matshediso Lekgoati of Penny-Reg Designs, Nomzamo Ndlovu of Amasiko Trading Enterprises, Motshidisi Tau of Tau Chinese Restaurant & Caterers, Nonhlanhla Bhebe of Tshakadula Trading Services, Thandiwe Ngonelo of Potential Unlimited, Nelly Mashifane of Mognel Business Enterprises and Agnes Malebane of Dee Decor House.
