Assistant Solly Luvhengo has taken charge of Majimbos' final preparations for the African Under-17 Championships in the absence of head coach Serame Letsoaka.

Letsoaka is in Togo to check the facilities ahead of the finals of the seventh biennial event in Lome, starting on March 10.

He left on Saturday accompanied by Safa staffer Winston Marumo. They are expected back by the weekend.

The South African under-17 national side started their belated preparations at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria last week.

"So far, so good. The only problem is that we have two players who are in Europe on different missions," said Luvhengo.

Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Majimbos defender and captain, is in Spain for the Meridian Cup and left-back Dylon "Alarm" Classen is in Belgium for trials.

"We are delighted that striker Kermit Erasmus is back at training after being injured for some time," said Luvhengo, whose side starts the Lome tournament on March 10 with a game against hosts Togo.

The other two countries in Group A are Tunisia and Gabon. Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Eritrea are in Group B.
