Honour Biko and Sobukwe

One cannot disagree with Justice Malala who wrote; "It does not matter whether you agree with the PAC or not . attend one of the commemorations of this great man" in (Spirit of Sobukwe, Sowetan February 26).

One cannot disagree with Justice Malala who wrote; "It does not matter whether you agree with the PAC or not . attend one of the commemorations of this great man" in (Spirit of Sobukwe, Sowetan February 26).

In memory of Sobukwe, South Africans should develop a new type of cadre. Our country needs cadres whose vision of development and transformation is not blurred by party loyalty. Cadres who put our country first.

Their memory is being allowed to fade because their contribution to liberation pricks some people's consciences. To talk about him and debate his views will always be a sad reminder and an indictment on those who had no confidence in the ability of Africans to determine their destiny.

It is very sad that leaders like Sobukwe and Steve Biko are being denied their place in our history. It is even more disturbing that followers of these great leaders have to fight to have them recognised as national heroes.

The government must support our struggle by not creating obstacles in honouring Sobukwe and Biko. Azapo and PAC request that the University of Fort Hare and the Ben Schoeman highway be renamed after Sobukwe and Biko.

Dan Habedi, Azapo secretary general, Johannesburg
