Former Absa Cup champions Santos have embarked on a youth policy and they firmly believe the move will pay dividends in the near future.

Edries Burton, operation manager at The People's Team, said yesterday that four players were brought through their academy, but only Joswin Hendricks played in the 2-1 loss to Jomo Cosmos, coming on in the second half.

Burton said they are likely to field the other three - Ryan Chapman, Tasleen Paulse and Njabulo Gumede - when they host Free State Stars in the last 32 of the Absa Cup at Athlone Stadium at 7.30 tonight.

"These youngsters are doing well at training, they are committed to the team, always working hard to improve their game," said Burton.

He added that the youngsters will be playing alongside experienced players in Wayne Arendse and Musa Otieno, who is the side's mainstay at the back.

Ea lla Koto's assistant coach Themba Sithole said their focus was still on the league because it was not over yet.

"But this game will be final preparations for our league game against City Pillars on Sunday. We're going down there for a win so we'll be giving them a run for their money."
