Police have arrested the lover of a woman whose body was found burnt in the back seat of her car last week.

Daniel Mofokeng, 29, from Orange Farm, Vaal Rand, was arrested yesterday morning at a construction site in Northcliff, Johannesburg, where he was working.

Dimakatso Nqwadla, 25, was found burnt beyond recognition in her Fiat Uno in the veld at De Deur, Vaal, on Wednesday morning - the day she was to move into her own house.

She was identified by the engine numbers of her car and the jewellery she was wearing.

Police had been looking for Nqwadla's boyfriend since the discovery of the body.

Nqwadla and her boyfriend stayed in a back room at Nqwadla's parent's home in Orange Farm.

They are believed to have had an argument on Tuesday night because Nqwadla had bought a house in Evaton and had told her boyfriend she no longer wanted to live with him.

When the family woke up on Wednesday morning they found bloodstains in the couple's room and reported the matter to the police.

Police said they believed that Nqwadla had been badly assaulted before she was kidnapped and killed.

Vaal Rand police spokesman Captain William Mcera said: "We found a trail of blood from the back room to where the car was usually parked."
