The Limpopo provincial government will embark on a hands-on approach in the building of a new soccer stadium in Polokwane for the 2010 World Cup.
This was announced by Sello Moloto, the Limpopo premier, follows concerns in certain quarters over delays in the implementation process.
The other projects that Moloto's office will implement are the International Convention Centre and the development of Polokwane International Airport.
"Our medium-term review identified weaknesses in planning and capacity to spend. This has led to delays in the implementation of many important infrastructural flagship projects identified in our Provincial Growth and Development Strategy.
"The executive council has made a decision that the Office of the Premier should implement these projects if the contribution of our envisaged logistic cluster is to be realised," said Moloto.
The planning unit and project management unit in the Office of the Premier will be responsible for the speedy implementation of these flagship projects.
"This facility will be an asset of the province even beyond 2010," said Moloto.
He said they were happy that the Polokwane Municipality and Local Organising Committee are committed to the building of the 45000-seater Peter Mokaba sports complex.
