Putting its motto "Don't be part of a problem, be part of a solution" into action, the Amaha-Kwaito Nation, together with the Joburg health department, the SABC and the Muscular Dystrophy Society, has given food parcels to children and old-age homes in Soweto.

The gifts were presented at the Naledi sports complex on Tuesday.

Recipients were Orlando Children's Home, Othandweni Children's Home, Soweto Home for the Aged, Emdeni Children's Home, Adelaide Tambo Children's home, Hope Children's Home and the Philip Kushlick School.

Joyce Dube, of the SABC, said: "We are committed to total citizen empowerment."

Matshidiso Mfikoe, the member of the mayoral committee responsible for health matters, said: "This initiative will help a lot of people and has the potential to go a long way.

"Many people, including children, need our support.

"Together, with the little we have, we can make a huge difference."

Amaha-Kwaito Nation's Doc Shebeleza said artists are committed to social responsibility.

"Last year we donated food parcels to lots of families and this year we will continue our mission to help those in need," Shebeleza said.

The donors announced on Tuesday that they have adopted Protea South Primary School.

They said they especially wanted to help the pupils who are underprivileged or orphaned.

All the children will be given school uniforms and other educational materials.

The Amaha-Kwaito Nation concert, originally scheduled for last week in Meadowlands, will take place at Mofolo Park, Soweto, on Saturday from 9am until late.
