Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
Police are investigating rape and assault charges against a sangoma and six men after a woman reported the alleged attacks to police.
The sangoma, from Chochocho village near Hazyview, allegedly tied the woman trainee's hands with a rope, locked her in a single room with a male patient and told her that the man would sleep on a sofa.
The victim, 29, from Gauteng, told police that the man came to her bed, took off her underwear and repeatedly raped her without using a condom.
"When she reported the rape to the sangoma in the morning, she was severely assaulted by the sangoma and six men," said police spokesman Inspector Jiyela Sibiya. The seven are still at large. - Masoka Dube
