A Mpumalanga man alleges that three KaNyamazane policemen beat him up because "he had no respect for policemen''.
Andrew Dlamini, 37, a resident of KaNyamazane, near Nelspruit, says the policemen, who were travelling in an unmarked car without any identification, flagged him down on Sunday at 10pm. But he did not stop as he feared for his life.
However, the policemen caught up with him and he alleges that one of them fired a shot on the road in front of his vehicle.
"I thought these guys were criminals who wanted to either take my car or kill me, so I immediately stopped," says Dlamini.
"One of the men came and started punching me while accusing me of lacking respect for the police."
He said the other men joined in the assault. Before they left, he wrote down the registration number of their car: CXD 813 MP.
The car was seen parked at the police station on Monday morning.
Lowveld police spokesman Superintendent Mtsholi Bhembe confirmed that the police were investigating the allegation of assault. He said action would be taken if the men were found guilty.
