A woman broke down and cried yesterday shortly after giving graphic details of how she became a victim of a man alleged to be Johannesburg's worst serial rapist.
The woman, a married mother of a six-year-old girl, was testifying in the Johannesburg high court against Mongezi Samuel Jinxela. Jinxela is charged with the rape of 65 women.
The state alleges that Jinxela, 38, raped the women - some more than once - over 10 years.
He allegedly lured the women with promises of work, but then took them to remote areas where he assaulted, raped and robbed them.
He has pleaded not guilty to 261 counts - including 71 for rape, 64 kidnappings, 61 assaults and 62 aggravated robberies.
Yesterday Jinxela took notes as the woman gave details of her alleged rape.
The woman said she met Jinxela on January 28 2000 in Joubert Park, Johannesburg, on her way to an employment agency.
"He approached me and said I looked distressed, like someone who was desperate for work," said the woman.
She said Jinxela then told her that he had been waiting for his cousin for whom he had found work but had just learnt would not be arriving.
"He said his employer needed somebody urgently and that he had to bring a person that same day," said the woman.
The woman said she and Jinxela boarded a taxi to Fordsburg after explaining to him that she first had to run an errand there.
"When we alighted from the taxi he grabbed me by the neck and forced me to go with him," said the woman.
She said Jinxela, armed with a firearm, took her to a remote area where he allegedly forced her to undress and then raped her.
The woman denied under cross-examination that she and Jinxela were lovers.
The case continues.
