An uneasy silence met mourners yesterday at Bedfordview High School, where young Thato Bongi Radebe was a pupil. She was brutally raped and killed last weekend.

Some pupils solemnly huddled in groups while others were in tears. A memorial service for Thato was held in the main hall.

Her friend, Lerato Zwane, told the packed hall: "I have lost a true friend."

Thato's brother, Yizo Yizo and Zone 14 actor Tshepo Ngwane, said: "Those culprits thought they had the right to take away her life, but it is only God who has that right.

"Our father was also brutally killed and even now the killers are still out there. They have not been caught."

The funeral service will be held at Emndeni Hall, Soweto, at 7am on Sunday. The cortege leaves for Lenasia cemetery at 9am.
