The people of Emndeni, Soweto, helped at the weekend in the arrest of two more suspects in the murder of 14-year-old Thato Radebe.

The latest arrests have brought to three the number of suspects taken into custody in connection with the rape and killing of the former Bedfordview High School pupil.

Captain Lindiwe Mbatha, a Soweto police spokesman, said two men, aged 20 and 21, were arrested yesterday.

"They were arrested in Emndeni after a tip-off. We expect to make more arrests soon," said Mbatha.

Thato's brother, Yizo Yizo and Zone 14 star Tshepo Ngwane, said: "If I see the people responsible for killing my baby sister, God knows what I will do.

"I do not care if I rot in jail."

Gauteng's MEC for community safety and liaison, Firoz Cachalia, visited Thato's family yesterday.

He told Thato's mother, Happy Radebe: "Your pain is not something we can take away, but we will support you through this.

"Those responsible will face the full might of the law."

Cachalia described the rape and murder as "cruel, and without humanity".

He thanked the community for working with the police to bring the schoolgirl's assailants to book.

Nomsa Hlomendlini, a chairman of the ANC Women's League in Johannesburg, said her organisation will campaign against violent crime.

"We will oppose bail. We will work with the police and show people crime does not pay."
