Plea to end pain of brutal crime

Everyone is impressed by the swift arrest and conviction of one of David Rattray's killers. It took a prominent crime to get a response from the government.

Everyone is impressed by the swift arrest and conviction of one of David Rattray's killers. It took a prominent crime to get a response from the government.

But what about the other 14999 victims and their families. Where is their swift justice, President Thabo Mbeki?

Yesterday I read the story of 14-year-old Thato Radebe and, though I was horrified, I could not cry.

There is too much violence. While FNB wastes account holders' money on pulled campaigns because they fear the ANC bigwigs, the Thatos will continue to be raped and murdered.

The government provides its members of parliament with their own security compounds, surrounded by bodyguards. But it does nothing to stop the crime pandemic that is the second biggest killer of South Africans after Aids.

Once and for all; do something, Mr Mbeki!

For Thato's sake and for the sake of every other child who will become a victim of crime every day of this year.
