A 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing the son of a shop owner during an armed robbery in Balfour, Mpumalanga, last week, police said.
The man allegedly entered a shop at the Somar Shopping Centre at about 9am on Friday and shot Manesh Daya, 33, in the head. He then allegedly pistol-whipped the owner of the shop and made off with a sealed box. Police said they did not know what was in the box.
He fled on foot, but later got into a white Isuzu bakkie parked nearby and drove off.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the man was later arrested after he was found hiding in a cornfield outside Balfour on Friday afternoon.
He will appear in the Balfour magistrates' court today on a murder charge. - Sapa
