Why the outcry against Tony Yengeni and Schabir Shaik, but not against convicted killers?
The convicted "Water-kloof four" continue to be free, almost six years after they murdered a homeless, nameless man and assaulted another.
These four unremorseful, unapologetic, smirking killers are allowed to appeal their comparatively light sentences of 12 years. They hope to escape prison, apparently on the grounds that they were only aged [about] 16 at the time and therefore could not have known what they were doing.
What absolute rubbish.
Shame on the legal experts who say that these prison sentences, for cold-blooded murder, were too harsh. What kind of statement is that in our crime-infested country?
Hopefully, the appeal court will disagree and even increase the sentences for this callous murder.
For months now we have had expressions of outrage from the public concerning Yengeni and Shaik, neither of whom murdered anybody, but hardly a murmur about the cowardly, convicted Water-kloof killers and their crimes.
Their victim might have been poor, as well as down and out, but he was a human being and there should be as much disgust and outrage at his murder as there rightly has been at David Rattray's senseless killing.
Shame on us all.
