Soul singer Toni Braxton broke down in tears on US magazine show The View this week as she recalled the appearance of the first signs that her youngest child was autistic.
The singer spent two years searching for answers to the developmental problems of her son, Diezel, but it was only when she placed him in a school in Las Vegas last year that his autism was diagnosed.
The singer, a resident performer at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Vegas, said: "I get all emotional.
"When you've just found out about something, it takes some getting used to."
Braxton said she noticed that Diezel was struggling two years ago, when he was two.
He showed the classic symptoms of autism - insisting on order, speech problems and refusing to socialise with other children.
"There was no eye contact. He didn't play with his brother; he would play at his side. All the kids would be in the house, but he would be away from them," she said.
"He had to have order. He had to eat on the red plate with the Mickey Mouse fork. He had to sit on the left side, always."
Braxton put her son in speech therapy classes, but had no idea that he was autistic until the head of his private school brought it to her attention. - Wenn
