Fight criminal fire with fire

If the government really wanted to make fighting crime a priority it would ensure that it had the correct resources deployed across the country.

One must be forgiven for questioning why we spend more than 10 times our internal policing budget on peacekeeping missions abroad when it is our country that needs the peacekeeping.

One should also be allowed to question why our leaders take such a relaxed approach to fighting crime.

It further antagonises the citizens when the government does not have a sense of urgency about fighting crime.

The government continues sending out press releases on new crime-fighting plans, but it falls short when it comes to implementing the plans.

The government should treat crime as it would treat war. It should deploy enough men in blue and green to fight fire with fire.

There is no substitute for a bobby on the beat and technology such as closed-circuit TV cameras.

Both methods create employment opportunities and both have a material affect on bringing down crime.
