BARCELONA - Barcelona strikers Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi could be back on a football pitch with Barcelona on the same date, February 11, according to media reports from yesterday quoting the Spanish club's medical services.
Eto'o is in the final stages of recovery and told Marca that he was planning to play again on February 11.
The Cameroon hitman - top scorer in La Liga last season - has been out of action since October after a meniscus operation, and Barca have sorely missed his opportunism and speed.
According to the digital version of Marca, Eto'o will return to full training next week, but it could happen this week. He hopes to return to action in the home game against Racing Santander.
Messi also appears to be close to a full recovery.
"It is expected that Messi lands in Barcelona on Friday, after spending over one month in Argentina. The evolution [of his injury] has been very positive during his stay in his country, and the club's medical services are confident that they will establish his final release before the game against Racing Santander next week," the sport daily said.
The young Argentinian talent was injured on November 12. He broke the fifth metatarsal of his left foot, and doctors' initial diagnosis was a three-month absence from the pitch.
Marca added that Messi plans to train on the day he arrives in Barcelona, so that the club's doctors can make a preliminary assessment of his condition.
If positive, physical trainers are to take over the work and he would be expected to start working with the rest of the squad within three or four days. - Sapa-DPA
