Mpumalanga Black Aces beat FC Sporting 3-0 to stay three points clear on top of the Mpumalanga men's league.

A brace by new recruit Innocent Mnisi and one strike by Dumisa "Sphithiphithi" Ngobe was enough to see Aces consolidate their top spot.

Mnisi joined Aces last Thursday from reigning champions Barberton City Stars. Aces are now strong candidates to clinch the league. Their chances were boosted by Batau Killers' 1-all draw with Walter Stars.

Aces lead the race with 40 points after 18 games, followed by Killers with 37 points from the same number of games.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Russels "Romario" Molefe, now entrusted with coaching Aces, said: " The boys are picking form at the right time.

"The win against Sporting was a good one to boost our chances of winning the league."

Molefe said the experience of ex-PSL players Ngobe and Victor do Santos is guiding his young squad.

"The two gentlemen are playing a vital role in keeping the youngsters on top of their game. Despite playing with me in the PSL, the two guys are respecting me and giving me their full support," Molefe said.

Other results: FC Benfica 2, Barberton City Stars 0; ELB Movers 2, FC Barcelona 2; Middelburg Saints 3, Winners 1; Secunda Eagles 1, FC Spurs 3; Leandra 3, Sekhukhune Masters 2; Batau Killers 1, Walter Stars 1.
