Gruesome weekend for Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga police are searching for the people who killed a young man at the weekend.

Police said the 25-year-old man from Standerton was assaulted by two men on Saturday night and robbed of R2000, a cellphone and a jacket.

The victim's name could not be released because his family has not yet been informed.

Police said the man was walking along the street when his assailants approached him and demanded money. When he refused, an argument ensued.

Police said the attackers assaulted him using different objects until he lost consciousness. He was found by police who were patrolling the area. They took him to Standerton Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

l In another incident, 35-year-old Abraham Mazibuko was shot dead on Saturday night in Standerton by an unknown man.

l A hunter found a decomposed body in Volksrust between the KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga border on Saturday.

Police spokesman Abie Khoabane said yesterday: "The man in his late thirties was found lying in the veld. He was dressed in a blue and white Nike jacket and white takkies. A pair of spectacles were found next to the body."

l A 34-year-old woman hanged herself in Secunda on Sunday.

Police said the woman's husband found her when he returned from work. She used a rope to hang herself from the roof of their garage.

Police have opened an inquest docket.
