South African triplejump record holder, Khotso Mokoena, ended his preparations for the coming International Association of Athletics Federation competition in February on a positive note.

This was after the 21-year-old Mokoena won the triple jump category at the inaugural Yellow Pages Ultimate Athletics meeting in Secunda, Mpumalanga, at the weekend.

He will take part at the IAAF contest in Finland on February 4, Paris on February 9 and Belgium on February 17.

Mokoena said this victory had served as a great morale booster just days before the start of the competition on Sunday.

" I am now in good shape and ready to face my counterparts from other countries,'' said Mokoena.

The Rathanda-based Mokoena, a student at Potchefstroom University, was part of more than hundreds of enthusiastic athletes who came from all over the country to take part in different categories.

However, the R30 000 prize money offered by Athletics South Africa for athletes who break a South African record during the meeting failed to motivate competitors. There was no winner.
