Jacques Kallis and Ashwell Prince ground out fifth wicket partnership of 117 to take South Africa to a five wicket victory 16 minutes before tea on the third day of the third and deciding Castle Lager Test against Pakistan on Sunday.

In a low-scoring match, in which neither side was able to score 200 runs, South Africa needed to score 161 runs to win.

South Africa resumed their second innings on 36 for two yesterday, but doubt ran through the South African camp when Mohammad Asif took two early wickets.

Graeme Smith, who made 33 of the 36 runs scored on Saturday, was given out lbw without adding to his score off the ninth ball of the day, and Hashim Amla edged the ball to wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal for three. Asif and leg spinner Danish Kaneria bowled unbroken for the first hour and a half.

Asif bowled 11 consecutive overs and conceded just six runs for two wickets. Only 13 runs were scored in the first hour, and it was only when Mohammad Sami was brought into the attack that the first boundaries of day were scored.

Asif and Kaneria returned to the attack after lunch, but were obviously tired, and Pakistan had to rely on their second string bowlers to try to winkle the South Africans out.- Sapa
