Sowetan contacted three laboratories to test Nobuhle Ndlebe's child for its DNA, but we had no success.
DNA tests run on the corpse could not tell Ndlebe what she wanted to know, which was: is this my baby?
We phoned three laboratories in Gauteng - Lancet Laboratories, the Forensic Laboratory and Du Buisson and Partners.
Experts from these labs said: "It is difficult to get a reading on a bone sample, especially from a body that young. We are
not sure [if this is her child]."
Sowetan asked if the labs could run the tests using bone marrow instead.
An expert at the Forensic Laboratory head office in Pretoria replied: "Judging by the fact that the body was an infant and it has been buried for so long, it is highly unlikely that there is any bone marrow to test." - Pumza Fihlani
