International superstars George Benson and Al Jarreau are the double bill for the March 20 opening of the state-of-the-art Durban Arena at the International Convention Centre.

The two Grammy-award winning artists will also perform the first-ever public concert in the Arena on Human Rights Day the following evening.

During a media tour of the nearly completed site yesterday ICC chief Miller Matola, pictured right, said the R460-million Arena would provide Durban audiences with an entertainment feast.

"Audiences can enjoy a range of indoor events including concerts and sports events including boxing and wrestling," Matola said.

The Arena can accommodate heights of up to 12 metres and caters for up to 10000 spectators.

Matola said the Arena will strengthen the ICC's position as Africa's leading conference centre as voted by the World Travel Awards for six consecutive years.

It is also included in the list of top 10 best conference centres in the world.

The ICC has become a key catalyst for economic development in Durban and has generated more than R5billion in income since the opening of the centre in August 1997.
