Dream of work in UK dashed

Belinda Zondani, 39, who wanted to start a new life abroad after her divorce, will not realise her dream - but she'll get her money back.

Belinda Zondani, 39, who wanted to start a new life abroad after her divorce, will not realise her dream - but she'll get her money back.

She said Jabu Mathe, of MJK Work Abroad, had failed to secure her a job and had not refunded her R18000 after she cancelled her trip to the UK.

Zondani said she lost her job in June and thought it best to find a job far from home to help her recover from her acrimonious divorce.

"But I was failed by another man who took advantage of my desperate situation," she said.

Zondani took a loan from her family to pay for her trip to the UK after seeing an advert aboutworking in the UK. Her trip was scheduled for November 1, but nothing happened until last month, when she demanded her money back.

She was refunded only R1000 after making a number of telephone calls to MJK Work Abroad, she said.

Mathe said Zondani did not tell him she wanted to cancel the contract.

He said he was not in breach of contract, but could not explain why Zondani still languished at home.

"I will refund her money," he said.

Zondani had not confirmed receiving the R17 000 at the time of going to press.
