The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) will embark on a nationwide tour to assist runners in their preparations for the gruelling race.

CMA will conduct workshops for novices and seasoned campaigners from January 27 at the Nedbank offices in Sandton for Central Gauteng Athletics runners.

The roadshow has proved to be highly beneficial to athletes hoping to achieve the best possible results on race day, said the organisers.

It focuses on assisting committed runners with advice on how to start training for the marathon, injury prevention and dehydration.

CMA added that the workshops are aimed at motivating runners who are as yet undecided to enter and start training for the marathon.

Gary Boshoff, CMA general manager said: "The CMA needs to encourage as many runners as possible to enter this year.

"Many novice runners are reluctant to embark on a Comrades campaign because of the time commitment required of them, or possibly because they do not know how to plan a training programme.

"These workshops will provide both the motivation to enter, plus the information required to enable them to map out their training."

Boshoff said the workshops will be conducted by various experts in the field of training, injury prevention and dehydration.

Speakers will include Willie Mtolo, Sipho Ngomane, Brian Zondi, Frans Chauke, Bruce Fordyce, Lindsey Parry and Paul Dolman.

Entry is free.

Interested runners are urged to call Thami Vilakazi at the Comrades House on 033- 897-8650 during office hours or via e-mail thami@comrades.com.
