The case against six people accused of murdering Avhatakali Netshisaulu, 31, the son of City Press editor Mathatha Tsedu, was postponed yesterday for two separate bail applications.
There was a brief delay before the case was called because of the difficulty of bringing the accused into court through the underground cells. The electricity was off and there were no lights so police had to fetch torches.
The courtroom was crowded and there was a strong police presence.
The bail application for Netshisaulu's widow, Mulalo Unity Sivhidzo, was postponed until today. Police told the court that she and Ntambudzeni Mutsenene had confessed that Sivhidzo hired Mutsenene to kill Netshisaulu because she stood to gain more financially from his death than from a divorce. Sivhidzo has contested her confession, saying she made it after police assaulted her.
The accused are Sivhidzo, 28, Mutsenene, 29, Sello Johannes Arnold, 28, Rodney Makhura, 32, Setshaba Fokane, 36, and Mashudu Mutobvu, 30. - Sapa
