What are those people calling for the resignation of Gauteng Safety MEC Firoz Cachalia, right, trying to achieve?

What are those people calling for the resignation of Gauteng Safety MEC Firoz Cachalia, right, trying to achieve?

Who are they to judge Cachalia and label him a failure?

Yes, we should have public watchdogs to make sure that politicians do what they are appointed to do. But Cachalia committed himself when he announced: "If there was something I should have done and did not, then I'll resign."

He should be applauded for this brave commitment he made last year at the launch of Operation Iron Fist. No other politician has ever done that.

We do not doubt that he will emerge victorious when he publicly releases the crime statistics at the end of this month. Those who seem to be gunning for him before the release of the statistics are naive.

Operation Iron Fist has delivered because police visibility has improved. Crime in areas such as Hillbrow has been been reduced. No violent crimes were reported during the festive season. How can you want Cachalia fired?

Rather than condemn Cachalia, contribute to the fight against crime in Gauteng.
