Leadership not colour issue

DA leader Tony Leon's successor should weep with South Africans when a white farmer is murdered and do the same when a black farmworker has been killed.

DA leader Tony Leon's successor should weep with South Africans when a white farmer is murdered and do the same when a black farmworker has been killed.

I read with interest the article in last week's newspaper that Athol Trollip, right, has a "white skin, but he is black".

In order to lure black voters to the DA's ranks the leader need not be decided by colour. We need someone who will be able to join the black masses that protest against granting bail to an alleged murder of a black boy "mistaken" for a dog. The type of person who would tell Douglas Gibson that when he takes the media to President Thabo Mbeki's retirement home, he briefs them that even the late PW Botha's home had security arrangements paid for by the current government.

This would lend credibility to the opposition's work in keeping the government accountable. It would also help put to rest the fears that should the DA take over power, we, black South Africans, are going back to Babylon under the rule of King Nebuchadnezzar.
