MaSechaba Phafuli, one of the most prominent and long-serving nursing sisters at the Sharpeville Clinic, died peacefully on January 5 after a long illness.
MaSechaba attended to survivors of the 1960 Sharpeville massacre just as Nightingale did for soldiers of the 1854 Crimean War.
MaSechaba was warm, caring, selfless and generous.
Born Alice MaSechaba Kutumela in Nylstroom on November 13 1927, she married the late Robert Pudumo Phafuli in 1955.
She received her secondary education at Kilnerton Training College and then attended Lovedale College to train as a nurse.
The funeral service will be held at the St Luke's Methodist Church in Sharpeville from 7am to 9am tomorrow. MaSechaba will be buried at the Evaton Cemetery.
