This is a response to the South African Advertising Standards Authority's action against Canderel-Merisant.
The aspartame manufacturer has been told to get its "it tastes just like sugar" product off the shelves.
It is encouraging that the relevant and responsible medical and judicial authorities make this ban permanent, based on sound medical evidence that aspartame causes neuro-degenerative illnesses like brain tumours and multiple sclerosis, and even worse illnesses.
Aspartame was forced through the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1981 by Donald Rumsfeld, former secretary of defence, when he was chief executive of GD Searle, the pharmaceutical corporation that owned the patent.
Until 1995 the FDA kept a continually growing list of consumer complaints about aspartame, and the fact that it causes brain tumours, headaches, memory loss, cardiac arrhythmia, sudden death - a total of 92 symptoms.
We all sincerely hope that your government, whether health and justice ministers, or your parliament, will make this ban permanent.
There is sound evidence to warrant such a permanent ban.
