Jomo Sono has described Patrice Motsepe's reigning league champions Mamelodi Sundowns as the best outfit in the country at the moment.

The Jomo Cosmos owner-coach was speaking ahead of today's 3.45pm Castle Premiership encounter against 'Downs at Katlehong Stadium, a match many predict will be an explosive affair. It will be the Brazilians' abundant talent against the determination of Cosmos.

"There is no two ways about it, Sundowns have assembled a very good team in the country with some brilliant players. It will be a difficult game but we are ready," said Sono, who rejected Sundowns' attempts last month to lure his deadly striker, Chris Katongo, to their camp.

This was after media reports linking Katongo with a possible move to Chloorkop.

Sono also said Katongo, the current PSL leading goalscorer, will leave Cosmos at the end of the season.

Gordon Igesund, Sundowns' coach, insists that retaining the league title remained his priority this season.

"The spirit in the camp is great and the guys are focused. This is a tough period in January, not only for us but all the clubs.

"For us it is worse because we have to play every Wednesday and Saturday, and at the same time prepare for the [African] Champions League," said Igesund.

While this will be Sundowns' first game in 2007, Ezenkosi have already began the year with a bang when they hammered AmaZulu 4-2 in Durban last weekend, Katongo scoring a hat trick.

Cosmos welcome back Senegalese international El Hadji Sambo and Bamuza "Mokgonyana" Sono to the team. Sambo was out for almost two months due to a knee injury, while Sono missed the win over AmaZulu as he was getting married.
