While other students were enjoying the last days of their holidays yesterday, matriculants at Thuto- Lore High School in Sharpeville, near Vanderbijlpark, had started studying.

The principal of the school, Diticha Khosi, said he was pleased with the determination his students were showing before the official reopening of the school today.

Khosi said: "I hope that this year my pupils are all going to pass with flying colours."

Thuto-Lore obtained an 89percent pass rate last year and 54percent in 2005.

A volunteer teacher at the school, Collin Mothobi, said the intention was to help pupils understand what lay ahead of them.

The school offers afternoon and Saturday classes.
