The sleepy village of Tafelkop in Limpopo will wake up to the drumming of African rhythms later this month.
The Pulo ya Meropa (Opening of the Drums) for the African Renaissance festival will take place in the village on January20.
Led by a diviner, Mpubane Julius Rakgetse, the yearly drumming festival is proving to be a popular attraction in Limpopo.
It is an African Renaissance endeavour with an interfaith character. Anyone who plays the drums is encouraged to take part.
The participants range from people in entertainment to those with religious affiliations and exponents of the cultural arts.
"Everyone is welcome to exhibit and explore, either as a performer or as part of the audience, free of charge," said Paledi Sefolo, the festival's spokesman.
Ten groups and individuals are expected to take part in the festival.
Among them are Seweweledi Production, in collaboration with Batubatse le Maphagwana Crusaders and Rakgetse; Global Cultures Crossed Echoes of Africa in collaboration with Mudapothe and Macks Papo; and Pops Mohammed, who will perform a Khoisan piece.
More than 6000 people are expected to attend the noisy festival.
