The African National Congress is starting its “dispute resolution process” in a bid to address the a.
A "toy-boyfriend" who allegedly shot a prominent social worker before turning the gun on himself is still in the intensive care unit at a local hospital in Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal.
The murdered woman, Lolo Shozi, 40, was found dead in her bedroom wearing a kanga on Thursday while her younger lover, Thembinkosi Ngubane, 28, was found in a pool of blood on the bed with only his pants on.
The lovers, who are believed to have been in a relationship for three years, were alone in the house while their children were with relatives in the township.
It is alleged Shozi's licensed firearm was used to kill her.
The couple's clothes and shoes were scattered all over the house and blood was spattered over a wide area.
Ngubane's brother, Gcina, said the couple had sent unclear and concerning SMSes to his wife's cellphone on Wednesday at around midnight.
Gcina said he realised there was something very wrong when his brother sent an SMS saying, "I'm sorry", and the next one giving directions to where they would find him.
"Thembinkosi sent an SMS saying we must come and fetch him at the house.
"But to our surprise, we found the house locked. We knocked, but got no answer, so we called the police," he said.
He said it was very unfair that Shozi had died while his brother had survived.
"It makes matters worse," he said, weeping.
"It's a closed chapter. No one knows what happened. I had spent the festive season with them."
Shozi's colleagues were also devastated.
"She has been so happy. And it's terrible that such good life was snatched away like this," said one colleague.
"She spent her life committed to helping other people."
Police spokesman Captain Shoes Magudulela expressed shock at the incident.
"We have never seen such a horrible thing in this town. It is not clear what exactly happened.
"Both have gunshot wounds to their heads. We took the gun for ballistic identification."
Police are investigating charges of murder and attempted murder.
