Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
The much-awaited report into Ananias Mathe's mysterious escape from Pretoria's maximum security jail is expected to land on the correctional services minister's desk next week, following a month-long investigation.
Attempts to make prison authorities believe that Mathe smeared his body with Vaseline to enable him to squeeze through his cell window backfired when it came to light that he may have simply bribed his way out of jail.
The National Intelligence Agency headed the inter-departmental task team that completed a preliminary report last month, before finalising a comprehensive report this month.
Correctional Services Minister Nqconde Balfour has already been briefed and will receive the written report next week.
He will study it and "make recommendations", according to his spokesman, Luphumzo Kebeni.
Mathe, a Mozambican national, escaped from C-Max prison late in November and was recaptured by a vehicle tracking company almost three weeks after he escaped.
Six warders were suspended following Mathe's escape.
Mathe faces more than 70 criminal cases including rape, attempted murder, housebreaking and theft.
He now faces the additional charge of escaping from prison.
