Former president Nelson Mandela yesterday indulged in one of his favourite past times: spending some time with a young child.
The baby Madiba spent time with was his 5-month-old godchild, Helena Zakade Inzerillo, the daughter of former SABC TV presenter Prudence Solomon and Jerry Inzerillo.
The couple, who met when Inzerillo was working at Sun City, are old friends of Mandela's and now live in New York.
Yesterday, the Inzerillos took the opportunity to present Helena Zakade to her world- famous godfather.
When their child was born the couple informed Mandela and he named her Zakade, which means "The one who took a long time to come".
This, according to celebrity photographer Peter Morey, was because Inzerillo fathered her at the mature age of 52.
The Inzerillos came to South Africa to attend Tuesday's opening of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls at Henley on Klip, south of Johannesburg. - Sowetan
