Only 13 of 67 matriculants passed the examination at the infamous Kgononyane High School in the remote village of Southey in Ganyesa, North West province.
Kgononyane sprung to notoriety earlier last month when it emerged that only one of its 650 pupils passed the end-of-year exams for grades seven to nine last year.
Of the 13, only one managed to obtain three distinctions. They were in mathematics, physical science and Setswana, according to the provincial Department of Education's spokesman, Charles Raseala.
"It shows that the school had improved immensely because its Grade 12 results improved from 15percent to 19percent.
"Furthermore, one student obtained distinction in the most difficult subjects, like mathematics and physical science," said Raseala.
The high failure rate at the school drove the MEC for education in North West, Johannes Tselapedi, to suspend the school's two teachers, and its principal and his deputy.
The premier of North West, Edna Molewa, blamed the bad performance on "teachers who do not take the interest of children to heart".
Raseala said the school had all the facilities of an urban school though it was in a remote area.
He said the school had a science laboratory and computers, and it was staffed by teachers who were capable of teaching science subjects.
