Get home safely

As holiday-makers begin their return from their festive season exodus to far-flung destinations this week we are again alerted to the hazards on our national roads caused by heavy traffic.

As always, holiday-makers should be mindful of the need to arrive home safely. They should resist becoming part of the rat-race just to reach their destination a little earlier.

The key message is "Better late than never".

The trick is to make stops on the way - driver fatigue is responsible for most of the accidents on the national roads during holiday seasons.

The hazards created by clogged-up traffic mean motorists must be constantly on the alert.

That said, we wish all our holiday-makers a safe trip back home.
