Tyson on bail, up for drugs

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has been released on bail and will be charged with possession of drugs after being arrested on Friday.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has been released on bail and will be charged with possession of drugs after being arrested on Friday.

Police in Arizona stopped Tyson, 40, after he left a Scottsdale nightclub at 1.45am on Friday and his car nearly collided with a sheriff's vehicle.

"He showed signs of impairment and voluntarily submitted to a field sobriety test," said Sergeant Larry Hall.

Tyson showed "more signs of impairment" during the test and was arrested and booked at a Maricopa County jail. Officers allegedly found cocaine on him and in his car.

According to website TMZ.com, the arresting officer said that after stopping Tyson he "stated he is an addict and has a problem".

Tests revealed he was "under the influence of a depressant, a stimulant and cannabis".

The boxer's most famous brush with the law was a rape conviction that landed him in jail from 1992 to 1995 for a 1991 sexual assault on a woman in an Indiana hotel room.

Last year Tyson checked into rehabilitation clinic in Arizona.
