Senaoane Gunners' chairman Mike Ntombela has described their winning of the 2006 Walter Sisulu Discovery Tournament as a New Year gift to their fans.
Amavarara reclaimed the title after beating Arthur Zwane's Galatasaray 5-4 on penalties at the Safa Pimville-Klipspruit Development Centre at the weekend.
This was after the match ended in a 1-all deadlock after 90 minutes' regulation time. Paul Banda had given the Gunners an early lead but Mimi Phiri equalised for Galatasaray.
"We could not have asked for a better way to say thank you to our supporters and residents of Senaoane for their awesome support," said Ntombela.
The Gunners received R30 000 and Galatasaray R13 000.
In the women's section, Soweto Ladies pipped Fabulous Ladies 2-1 in the final, while Real Glascow hammered Zola Lazio 4-1 in the under-17 final.
In Tembisa, G-String of Tembisa beat Abarondoli 1-0 in Philly's Games final at Mehlareng Stadium to pocket a R50 000 first prize.
Abarondoli, who included Jerry "Legs of Thunder" Sikhosana in the group stages of the matches, had to settle for R20 000 second prize.
"It was a rocking tournament. It was good to see so many people coming to the grounds despite the pouring rain," said organiser Bheki Zondo.
Moving to Orange Farm, Young Stars from Orange Farm defeated Khululeka 2-1 in Dona's Mates Home of Champions Summer Games.
Stars pocketed R15 000, while Khululeka got R7 000.
The yearly Selope Thema Games against Crime in KwaThema were won by Home Sweepers who beat Africa All Stars 5-3 on penalties.
Defenders got R17 000 and All Stars were presented with R15 000. Sweepers' under-13s also won their category.
In disabled basketball, the Duduza basketball team walked away with a gold medal, followed by Vosloorus and KwaThema basketball sides, respectively.
There was also a netball tournament where Juveniles were declared the winners, with Peace Lovers and Real Twist second and third, respectively.
In neighbouring Tsakane township, New Era Santos beat Best Football Club 2-1 to win the Tshepo Ncholo Memorial Games.
Santos got R20 000 and Best R15 000.
At the same event, Mahwelereng Spikes were crowned the softball champions after defeating neighbours Seleteng Giant Killers 6-5 in an all-Limpopo final.
The Destroyers, as Spikes are also known in ball-game circles, received R8 000 and Killers were given R5 000.
Maroma beat Lotus Gardens 2-0 in the final of the Lucas "Masterpieces" Moripe Goodwill Games at Mbolekwa Sports Complex in Atteridgeville.
Maroma received R20 000 and Lotus R10 000.
